Brake Repairs in Sunbury-on-Thames

Brakes are the most important safety system on your vehicle. Noise, vibration, a changing pedal feel or a warning light are all signs that something should be checked — sooner rather than later.

We inspect and repair complete brake systems on all makes: pads, discs, calipers, hoses, hydraulics and electronic parking brakes, using parts appropriate to your vehicle.

Safety first: Grinding, a soft pedal, or a red brake warning can indicate a serious fault. If the vehicle feels unsafe to drive, please don’t keep driving it. Call or WhatsApp us — we can arrange collection or recovery.

Common signs

Symptoms worth checking

  • Squeaking or squealing when braking
  • Grinding or metal-on-metal noise
  • Steering wheel shake or pedal pulsing when braking
  • Car pulling to one side under braking
  • Soft, spongy or long pedal
  • Brake or parking brake warning light

How a brake fault develops

Pads wear down until their wear indicators — or eventually the backing plate — contact the disc. Discs wear thinner and can develop uneven thickness that you feel as vibration. Calipers can seize, causing pulling and overheating, and hydraulic issues change how the pedal feels.

Electronic parking brakes add motors and software; many need diagnostic equipment to retract them for pad replacement.

FAQs

Brake Repairs: your questions answered

Why are my brakes squeaking?

Common causes include worn pads reaching their wear indicators, glazing, dust or a lack of lubrication on contact points. Some light noise after rain is normal; persistent squealing should be checked.

Why do my brakes grind when I stop?

Grinding often means pads are worn to the backing plate or debris is trapped. It can damage discs quickly and should be inspected immediately.

Why does my steering wheel shake when braking?

Usually uneven disc thickness or run-out, although suspension or wheel issues can contribute.

How do I know if my brake pads or discs need replacing?

Noise, warning lights, vibration or visibly thin pads are signs. We measure pads and discs against minimum specifications.

Is it safe to drive with a brake warning light on?

A red brake warning can indicate low fluid or a hydraulic problem and should not be ignored — stop when safe and contact us. An amber light may relate to pad wear or ABS; get it checked promptly.

Why is my brake pedal soft or spongy?

Air or moisture in the fluid, a leak, or a failing master cylinder. This is safety-critical; avoid driving and have it checked.
